African Art - Souvenir from Mali - Masks

Every time I see these masks, I couldn't keep myself of thinking, why do people like masks, is it just because it's funny and beautiful to carry a mask, or is it because some people feel shame while they're doing nasty facts and can feel more confortable building their lives behind masks.
